Alice L. Richards age 93 of Nashua, IA, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

A Celebration of her Life by family and friends will be held 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the United Methodist Church of Christ, Activity Room in Nashua.

A private family burial will take place at a later date. Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Online condolences for Alice’s family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com Alice Richards was born October 26, 1922 in Richland Township, Chickasaw County, the daughter of Clarence and Thyra (Michaelsen) Dixon. She attended 7 Mile Grove Country School before going to Nashua for her final two years of high school.

On February 12, 1939 she married the love of her life, Roger Richards, in New Hampton. To this union six children were born. Because of Roger’s career in the Navy, the couple resided in numerous states. They lived in Florida, California, Hawaii, Texas, and then settled down in Nashua in 1965.

Alice was very involved in many activities while living in Nashua. She was active at the Methodist church serving on different circles for funerals and other social events. Alice was also active in the VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, spent many hours creating ceramic pieces, and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles. Roger and she ran the floral shop north of Nashua and she also worked at the High School in the cafeteria.

Her biggest job of all was raising her six children, who meant the world to her.

Alice is survived by six children: Jerry (Lorene) Richards of University Place, WA, Joan Boss of Fredonia, KS, Beryl (Connie) Richards of Nashua, IA, Gale (Linda) Richards of Charles City, IA, Janice Dorenkamp of Rockford, IA, Gay (John) Wicks of Schaller, IA; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister Marilyn Bigelow of Cedar Falls, IA; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 28, 1992, one son-in- law John Boss, and three brothers Dick, Dale and Arnold Dixon.
