Letter to the Editor: The health ‘care’ fiasco and public responsibility

By David Payne, Charles City

Today (July 25, 2017) I hear on the mainstream media that the Republicans are going to vote on the house health care bill.

What I would like to know is, which bill or parts of which bills? This sounds like they are following in Nancy Pelosie’s guidelines from her not-so-famous rant as speaker of the house when she said, “We have to pass this bill, so that we can see what is in it.”

Now we have seen what is in it and it stinks.

Why have the Republicans sat on their hands for the last seven-plus years and not even come up with a coherent, well-thought-out plan that actually could be a benefit for all of us?

They are acting like a bunch of dandelion seeds just being blown by the changing wind.

I do believe that we would be better served if “We The People” would be more in tune with what our elected officials were actually doing to us, since it seems they are only working for themselves.

Take away the Rolls Royce plans that they give themselves and let them buy the plans that they can afford from their own public furnished salaries.

They classify themselves as public servants, which is a misnomer as they actually are our employees.

Let me as an individual buy my health insurance from any health insurance company that is licensed in any state of the U.S. that fits my needs and budget. I have this privilege when I buy my homeowners, automobile, and numerous other insurance policies.

Also, they need to be more forthcoming with their actual tax returns that will show us how they have been able to amass such wealth in such a short time on the salary they are actually paid.

It seems to be a safe way to become wealthy for the governing ones but on the backs of the governed.
