NASHUA — It takes a pretty formidable act of nature to wash out a high school trapshooting meet.

Thursday’s torrential rainfall that plagued Charles City/Nashua-Plainfield’s home meet against Waverly-Shell Rock gave it its best shot.

But it wasn’t the rain that halted fire — rather a flash of lightning that suspended Nashua-Plainfield 1’s round for about a half hour.

All squads were able to get their rounds in, but when the rain became a deluge near the end of the meet, it discouraged shoot-offs for second place among the men and women.

Paced by top male shooter Nicholas Sinram, who hit 47 out of 50 clays, Waverly-Shell Rock Gold placed first among seven squads with a team score of 225.

Paced by top female shooter Natalie Koepke (44 of 50), Waverly-Shell Rock Silver placed second with a team score of 218.

Charles City 1, which shot later in the meet when the rain started to assert itself, placed third (218). The Comets were led by Jace Landt, whose 46 scored tied him for second with W-SR’s Cayden De Boer and Austin Meyer.

Carter West hit 45 clays from Charles City 1.

Nashua-Plainfield 1 was fourth (189), led by Bobby Gipple (42), Kollyn Lentz (41), and Marissa Fuerstenberg, whose 38 score tied her for second among women with W-SR’s Brooke Wilson.

Charles City 2, paced by Levi Robbins (43) and Devin Alton (41) placed fifth with a total of 187 hit targets, ahead of W-SR Bronze (181) and Charles City 3 (175).
