Airport near Charles City to build new hangar

Staff Report

A new 3,900-square-foot hangar will be built at the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport, expected to be completed by late summer.

The North Iowa Aviation Authority announced that is has approved construction of a 60-by-65-foot hangar for a bid of $347,000. Matt Construction of Sumner submitted the lowest of seven bids received.

The hangar will replace a block hangar building constructed in 1946 when the airport was moved from Cleveland Avenue northeast of Charles City to its current location east of the city.

Financing for the project will come from the North Cedar Aviation Authority, the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Aviation Division and Heartland Power Cooperative of St. Ansgar. The Charles City Area Development Corp. helped coordinate the funding.

Clappsaddle Garber & Associates of Marshalltown, consultants for the aviation authority, will oversee the project construction.
